College student, woman die of dengue in Kushtia, Mymensingh

Two more died of dengue fever in Kushtia and Mymensingh on Saturday, report agencies.

A college student died on way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Tarek, 18, son of Mahim Uddin of Shamnagar village of Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia and a student of Khalishakundi Degree College in Kushtia.

Kushtia Civil Surgeon Dr Rowshan Ara Tarek said Tarek was admitted with dengue at Mirpur Upazila Health Complex on Friday and later he was shifted to Kushtia General Hospital as his condition deteriorated on Saturday morning.

The doctors of Kushtia Hospital referred him to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital and he died on way to the hospital at 11.00 am.

Meanwhile, a woman diagnosed with dengue died in Mymensingh.

Fatema Akhter, 65, passed away during treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital early on Saturday morning, said the hospital's Deputy Director Dr Laxmi Narayan Mazumder.

Fatema, a native of Jamalpur's Islampur Upazila, was admitted to the hospital with fever on September 13.

"She was moved to the ICU when her condition deteriorated on September 19 and died during treatment there on Saturday," said Dr Laxmi Narayan.

Meanwhile, a total of 408 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in 24 hours until Saturday morning.

Among the new dengue patients, 135 were hospitalised in Dhaka and 273 in other parts of the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Currently, 2,252 patients, including 917 in the capital, are being treated at hospitals, it said.

Since January, 84,397 people were hospitalised with dengue, most of them in Dhaka. Of them, 81,942 have made full recovery.
