College students call off blockade

Students of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday withdrew their blockade at Nilkhet-New Market intersection after the university authorities assured them of meeting their demands.

Students of Dhaka College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls' College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College continued their demonstration putting up barricade at the intersection for the second day from 11am to 2:30pm to press home their five-point demand.

Later the demonstrators left the streets after the announcement of a meeting with DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the evening.

DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani said they have already taken steps to publish the results within 90 days and reevaluate the exam papers of those who have applied for.

DU VC Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman called a meeting for April 28 with the principals of the seven colleges to solve the problems the students were facing, said the press release.
