FE Report | July 16, 2019 00:00:00

District administrators have proposed the formation of committees at the district and upazila levels, which can help raise revenue income.

The deputy commissioners (DCs) also proposed the simplification of conditions for granting small-scale loans, especially for women.

They placed the proposals at a session on Monday, the second day of a five-day annual conference, which began on Sunday in the capital.

The session, held at the Bangladesh Secretariat, was presided over by cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam.

Prime Minister's economic adviser Dr Mashiur Rahman and secretaries of different divisions under the Ministry of Finance attended the meeting, among others.

After the meeting, Dr Rahman told reporters the DCs have proposed forming committees led by DCs and Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs).

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) found the proposal appropriate and took into consideration, he said.

He also said there is a proposal of the tax collector to appoint officials at the district and upazila levels while increasing its manpower at the head office and.

The DCs proposal can be considered when NBR's increased manpower is appointed, the adviser said.

"Most of the proposals placed by DCs are focused on the optimum use of loans and the government's allocation for wellbeing of people," he said.

Dr Rahman also said the DCs have proposed easing the loan sanctioning procedures.

"Many of the bank branches fail to distribute loans in line with the allocations. In most cases, women fail to meet the conditions for getting loans. The DCs have proposed easing the conditions," he noted.
