Gazipur city dev project gets ECNEC nod

Nine more projects approved

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at a meeting on Tuesday approved a total of 10 projects, including Gazipur city development project, involving Tk 69.67 billion.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the ECNEC meeting.

Under the Tk 38.28 billion city development project, the Gazipur City Corporation will develop roads and drains and also acquire 239.78 acres of land for development activities.

According to the project proposal, the city corporation will construct 43.25 km bituminous road and 40.55km RCC road.

Emerging from the ECNEC meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan briefed reporters on the 10 projects involving Tk 69.67 billion.

Of the total cost, Tk 66.86 billion will come from the government fund, Tk 2.42 billion from the implementing agencies' own resources and the remaining amount as project assistance from foreign sources, he said.

Of the projects, nine are new and one is a revised one.

Other projects include Expansion and upgrade of power supply system in the West Zone areas (1st revised) involving Tk 16.87 billion; Widening Bamandanga (Gaibandha)-Shathibari-Aftabganj (Dinajpur) district highway project (Tk 4.26 billion); Construction of multi-storey building on the premises of Officers' Club (Tk 2.28 billion), and Construction of multi-storey combined building for government office in Manikganj (Tk 956.46 million).

The remaining projects are Renovation of 21 metre-gauge Diesel Electronic Locomotives of Bangladesh Railways involving Tk 2.42 billion; Further Development of Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka (Tk 983.62 million); Reconstruction of Rehabilitation and Training Centre for Destitute children, Konabari, Gazipur (Tk 816.58 million); Strengthening the Capacity of Dhaka Metropolitan Police to face Terrorism and Ensure Public Safety (Tk 796.62 million); and Development of Irrigation Areas in Greater Faridpur (4th phase) (Tk 2.00 billion).

Ministers, Planning Commission members and high officials of the ministries were present at the ECNEC meeting.
