ICMAB corporate awards go to 27 best companies

A total of 27 companies won the "ICMAB Best Corporate Awards-2016" Sunday for their outstanding performance especially in corporate governance.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith handed over the awards to the winners as the chief guest at a programme in a city hotel.

Chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) M. Khairul Hossain and chairman of Financial Reporting Council (FRC) C. Q. K. Mustaq Ahmed were present as special guests.

The corporate entities received the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) awards in 11 categories like banks, non-banking financial institutions, general insurance, manufacturing, power generation and miscellaneous in recognition of this best culture of corporate governance.

BRAC Bank Limited was adjudged the top of traditional private commercial banks while Eastern Bank Ltd and the City Bank Limited secured the second and third positions respectively.

Of the Shariah-based private commercial banks, Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd (IBBL) secured the top position, followed by Al-Arafah Islami Bank Ltd and Social Islami Bank Limited.

Janata Bank Ltd bagged the award in the category of state-owned commercial banks (SoCBs). There was no other bank in this category.

Among the non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs), IDLC Finance Limited was placed on the top. LankaBangla Finance Limited and Delta Brac Housing Finance Corporation Ltd secured the second and third positions respectively.

In the category of general insurance companies, Green Delta Insurance Company Limited came first, followed by Reliance Insurance Limited and Agrani Insurance Company Limited.

In the cement category, Premier Cement Mills Limited bagged the first position with Heidelberg Cement Bangladesh Ltd and M.I. Cement Factory Ltd emerging second and third.

Envoy Textiles Limited got the first position while Rahim Textile Mills Ltd and H.R. Textile Mills Limited second and third respectively in the category of textile/garments.

Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd bagged the first position in the pharmaceuticals category while Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd placed second.

British American Tobacco Bangladesh, Linde Bangladesh Limited and Golden Harvest Agro Industries Ltd became first, second and third respectively under the manufacturing (other) category.

In the power generation category, Summit Power Ltd emerged atop while Baraka Power Limited claimed the second slot.

Singer Bangladesh Limited won the award under miscellaneous category.

ICMAB president Jamal Ahmed Choudhury delivered the welcome address while chairman of corporate award and branding committee Mohammad Ali Nawaz and secretary of ICMAB Md. Abdur Rahman Khan delivered the vote of thanks on the occasion.
