Imprisoned BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday underwent treatment at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to remove fungal infection from her tongue, reports UNB.

The BNP chief, who has been undergoing treatment at the BSMMU since April 1, was taken to the hospital's A block from its Cabin block's 621-No room for the treatment around 1:20pm amid tight security.

Prof Shamsul Alam of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department treated Khaleda. She was taken back to the cabin block after the treatment, BSMMU director Brig Gen Dr AK Mahbubul Hoque told reporters at a press briefing.

"Khaleda Zia was feeling uncomfortable due to irritation in two teeth in her upper gum which also caused small-scale fungal infection in her tongue. Her problem was removed with the hour-long treatment at the dental department," he said.

The BNP chief was given the dental treatment a day after her party voiced deep concern over her illness, and demanded her proper treatment either at home or abroad as per her desire.
