CHATTOGRAM, May 13: Vehicular movements were disrupted on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, as local people put up barricade in City Gate area for one hour on Monday.

They demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the killers of Sandhya Rani (60) of Kattoli Kali Bari and drug peddlers of the area.

Drug peddlers killed her a few days back for trying to resist drug business, sources said.

Hundreds of locals blockaded the highway from around 11.00 am to 12.00 pm. They also formed a human-chain and held rally on the spot.

Subsequently, hundreds of vehicles got stuck on the highway due to traffic congestion, and the inter-district passengers suffered a lot.

However, police rushed to the spot and assured the local people of arresting the killers and all drug paddlers of the area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Akber Shah Police Station said, "We assured them of nabbing the criminals immediately. Police controlled the situation, and cleared the highway after one hour."

Earlier, vice president of Chattogram City Awami League Khorshed Alam Sujan, and Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) acting mayor Dr Nisar Uddin Ahmed Monju spoke at the rally.

The speakers at the rally said drug peddlers chopped Sandhya Rani on May 9. She was killed by the criminals for her fight against drug. So, local people are demanding immediate arrest and punishment of her killers.
