June 03, 2018 00:00:00

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Saturday that a magistrate has been appointed to probe the death of Teknaf municipal ward councillor Ekramul Haque, reports UNB.

He also said the magistrate would submit a report based on his findings.

Then appropriate steps will be taken by his ministry, he added.

The minister warned that if anyone intentionally caused his death, legal measures would be taken against that person.

There has been media outcry over the killing of Ekramul during the ongoing anti-drug campaign.

The victim's family members also came up with evidences of how he died on May 26.

The evidences contradict the RAB statement on the incident.

"Such investigation is a standard procedure, if allegations of cold-blooded murders arise," the minister said.

"This incident will be looked into similarly and it is already underway," he added.

About allegations made by Ekramul's family, the minister said that the family did not lodge any formal complaint challenging the official statement yet.
