The campus of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) remained calm on Sunday, as the agitating students stayed away from protests to facilitate the admission test to be held today (Monday).

After six days of demonstrations calling for justice for the murder of their fellow student Abrar Fahad, the agitating students postponed their protests for two days - Sunday and Monday.

The admission test for the 2019-20 academic session will be held from 9:00am to 12:00 noon, according to a BUET press release.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh General Student Rights Protection Council held a protest rally in front of the National Museum in the capital on Sunday demanding justice for the murder of Abrar Fahad.

At the rally, Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) vice-president Nurul Huq Nur said the Bangladesh Chhatra League has created a reign of terror on all educational campuses across the country.

Demanding justice for the killing of Abrar, he vowed to continue their movement to establish democratic environment on the campuses so that all students could express their views freely.

Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of EEE department of BUET, was beaten to death allegedly by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders at the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall.

UNB adds: A Dhaka court placed two more accused in Abrar murder case on a five-day remand.

They are Shamim Billah, 21, son of Aminur Rahman Bablu and second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of BUET, and Moaz Abu Hurayra, 20, son of Mashrur-uz-Zaman of in Kishoreganj and student of the same department.

Judge Md Mamunur Rashid of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court passed the order after investigation officer of the case Md Wahiduzzaman prayed for a 10-day remand for both of them.

Shamim was arrested from Isapur village of Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira on Friday while Moaz from Uttara sector-14 in the capital on Saturday.

Meanwhile, expelled Chhatra League member Muzahidur Rahman Muzahid, another accused in the murder case, reportedly confessed before a Dhaka court on Sunday to his involvement in the murder of Abrar Fahad.

Judge Nibhana Khyer Jesi of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court recorded his confessional statement at her chamber and later sent him to jail.

Muzahid, a third-year student of electrical and electronic engineering (EEE) department, managed to bring in the rope used to torture Abrar as per the instruction of expelled BCL organising secretary Mehedi Hasan Robin, sources said.

Earlier, investigation officer of the case Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman of the Detective Branch (DB) produced him before the court as he agreed to give confessional statement.

On October 8, Muzahid along with nine other BCL leaders and activists were placed on a five-day remand over the gruesome murder.

A day before that, police arrested them after examining surveillance camera footage and statements of witnesses.

On October 10, Efti Mosharraf Sakal, expelled deputy social welfare secretary of BUET BCL unit, also confessed his involvement to the killing before a court.

BSS adds: The first-year admission test for 2019-20 academic session of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) will be held today (Monday).
