Ruling party men terrorising people, says Rizvi

FE Report | January 03, 2019 00:00:00

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) alleged on Wednesday that the ruling party has been re-elected on 'ghost votes', not on people's mandate.

To ensure victory of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's party, the law enforcement agencies played a key role in the one-sided 11th parliamentary elections, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said.

Speaking at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office in the city, he alleged that the ruling party, after winning the elections through 'vote rigging', has been terrorising people with dissenting views across the country.

The BNP spokesperson also said this election victory is for Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) and OCs of police stations, not for Awami League candidates.

The government has spent a huge amount of money like water on the law enforcement agencies to win the election through 'vote forgery', he added.

"The government to be formed under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina will now be a government of the BGB, by the RAB and for the police," he added.

Terming the December 30 election a 'dark day', Rizvi said, "Awami cadres along with the law enforcement personnel carried out ballot stuffing amid joyous atmosphere at the empty polling centres in the night before the elections."

The election was a complete mockery, he added.
