CHATTOGRAM, Apr 01: The district administration has taken special measures to prevent fire incidents in the port city during the dry season.

Fire Service and Civil Defence has also taken preventive measures after recent fire incidents in Dhaka.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chattogram Mohammed Ilias Hossain said, "The district administration is alert to the possibility of fire incidents in Chattogram as there are many industrial units and go-downs in the city."

He added: "The fire incidents usually increase in the port city during the dry season. So, we are conducting mobile courts with our magistrates at the factories and buildings to monitor fire security measures there."

The DC said they were issuing notices to the owners of buildings and factories, asking them to ensure security. "If any fire incident takes place, we will take action against those responsible for it through the mobile court."

The district administration has also launched drive to create awareness among the building owners and city dwellers about fire and set up fire-fighting equipment at their buildings and preserve water in each area.

The district administration is now conducting mobile court against the factories and high-rise buildings. The mobile court is taking action against the owners of factories and high-rise buildings who have yet to install fire-fighting equipment.

As part of its special measures, Fire Service and Civil Defence Department has also started monitoring fire security measures at all the buildings and factories here this week.

The officials visited the newspaper offices and Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) and Chattogram Press Club on Monday.

During the visit, Md Abdul Manan, Senior Station Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence said, fire incidents go up in the port city during the dry season.

Fire Service and Civil Defence regularly arranges awareness programme in a bid to save the lives of city dwellers from fire. "We provide training to the garment workers to check the fire incidents.
