Striking players demand share of BCB revenue

The striking players have demanded a portion of Bangladesh Cricket Board revenue and fair pay for female cricketers in addition to their 11-point charter, reports bdnews24.com.

They revealed the new 13-point demand at a press conference after a meeting at a Dhaka hotel on Wednesday.

They announced the strike from a news conference led by Shakib Al Hasan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Monday.

Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and other top cricketers were present at the event.

The development came a month after the BCB decided to abandon the Bangladesh Premier League franchise-based model, triggering a fall in earnings of the cricketers.

Their initial 11-point demand included immediate resignation of president and general secretary of Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh, reversal of the BCB's decision to abandon the franchise-based model and abolition of the salary cap in the Dhaka Premier League.

BCB President Nazmul Hassan on Tuesday slammed the cricketers and said he suspected "a certain quarter was conspiring to destabilise Bangladesh's cricket".

On Wednesday, Barrister Mustafiz Rahman spoke at the press conference as a spokesman for the protesting cricketers.

He insisted that the cricketers do not believe in gender inequality and so the female players must be given all the facilities the male cricketers enjoy.

Besides resignation of the CWAB leaders, the cricketers also want a separate organisation of professional cricketers.

Mustafiz said the cricketers were not taking any legal steps and ready to sit with the board.

The players sat again after the press conference and would be heading to the Mirpur stadium.
