FE Report | September 01, 2019 00:00:00

Two more people died of the deadly dengue fever on Saturday in two districts, though the total number of patients across the country continued to decline.

The deceased were identified as Badsha Molla, 55, in Chattogram and Shilpi Akter, 45, in Khulna, sources said.

Hailing from Sitakunda upzilla, Badsha Molla had been admitted to the Park View Hospital in the port city on August 22, hospital sources said. He died at around 5.00am.

On the other hand, Shilpi Akter, who was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital on Friday evening, died on Saturday afternoon, said Residential Medical Officer of the hospital Dr Shailendranath Biswas.

With the two deaths reported, the total number of casualties crossed 180, according to unofficial sources.

However, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed 57 deaths from dengue so far.

According to information available with the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room under the DGHS, 760 new patients were hospitalised at different healthcare facilities across the country in the 24-hour period ending on Saturday morning.

Of the new patients, 349 were admitted to hospitals in the capital and 411 in other districts.

Some 1,189 and 1,025 dengue patients were hospitalised on Thursday and Friday respectively.

So far 70,795 dengue patients had been admitted to hospital until Saturday. Of them, 4,860 were still undergoing treatment at different government and private hospitals while 65,150 others left hospital after receiving treatment.

The Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) received 185 death reports, which are suspected to have occurred due to dengue.

However, after analysing 96 cases, the organisation confirmed that 57 deaths occurred on account of dengue.
