265 students receive Prime Minister Gold Medal today

The Prime Minister Gold Medal for 2015 and 2016 under the auspices of University Grants Commission (UGC) will be distributed at Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister's Office today (Sunday), reports UNB.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the gold medals to the talented students.

This year, a total of 265 students from public and private universities will be awarded the Prime Minister Gold Medal for their outstanding achievements in their respective faculties.

A total of 124 students for 2015 and 141 students for 2016 will receive the gold medals.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Md Sohorab Hossain will be present as special guests on the occasion. UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan will preside over the function. UGC Member Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum will also remain present.

Ministers, secretaries from different ministries, former UGC chairmen, present and former members, vice-chancellors from public and private universities, educationists and parents of the awardees and high officials from UGC, among others, will be present on the occasion.

The Prime Minister Gold Medal was introduced in 2005 as an effort to encourage the talented students of the universities of the country, said the UGC on Saturday.
