Some 30 officials from Bangladesh will take part in the Japanese government's human resource development scholarship programme this year.

In addition, three more fellows are expected to pursue doctoral degrees in the scheme offered by the Japanese government, said a press release from Japanese Embassy on Wednesday.

To this effect, an accord was signed on "The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)" at a function held at Economic Relations Division (ERD) on Wednesday.

Japanese Ambassador Hiroyasu Izumi and ERD Secretary Kazi Shofiqul Azam signed the documents of the project on behalf of their respective governments.

Chief representative of JICA Bangladesh Office Takatoshi Nishikata also attended the ceremony and signed the agreement.

The 30 JDS fellows will receive training in different graduate schools in Japan on public administration, economic affairs, legal system and urban planning, public finance and investment policy, the release added.

Since 2002 to date, 328 Bangladeshi officials have studied in Japan under the JDS scheme.

After the JDS scheme was opened for PhD, three officials have already started doctoral course in Japan.

Bangladesh is now the second biggest among the 15 countries participating in the JDS after the Japanese government increased the number of yearly fellows to 30 in 2016 from 15.

Amount of grant assistance is up to 433 million Japanese Yen, the release said.
