ACC chief for higher graft control skills

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman Iqbal Mahmood on Tuesday said efficiency of the Commission's workforce needs to be improved as the perpetrators are constantly shifting their graft strategy, type and style.

Although the Commission has made some progress in curbing and preventing grafts through continuous and impartial efforts, the national ant-graft body has not been fully satisfied yet, he said.

The ACC chief made the observations at a courtesy meeting with Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC) executive director Francis Sham at the Commission's headquarters in the city's Segunbagicha.

Talking about the global graft scenario, Mr Mahmood said, "Corrupt people have been frequently changing their styles and tactics of graft; at the same time, corruption in global context has intensified further instead of declining."

Bangladesh is not out of the global context and the country's anti-corruption agency needs latest tools and techniques to prevent new types of grafts, he added.

Mr Mahmood urged the ICAC team to provide training assistance to the ACC workforce through the skilled and professional trainers of the ICAC.

Expressing his interest to work with Bangladesh, Mr Sham called upon the ACC chairman to inform ICAC about the scopes of mutual cooperation.

ICAC would like to assist the Commission in developing good practices, information exchange, and arranging training programmes for ACC workforce.
