Accusing the ruling party men of stuffing ballot boxes overnight well before the start of voting, Jatiya Oikya Front chief Dr Kamal Hossian on Sunday voiced concern over the peaceful holding of the national election, report agencies.
He came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after casting his vote at Viqarunnisa Noon School centre in the morning.
"We have reports from outside Dhaka that votes have been cast overnight unlawfully depriving the voters of their right which is very disturbing," he said.
"Millions of lives had been laid down in 1971 and thereafter in the Liberation War and different democratic movements for establishing the voting right," Kamal said.
Through casting votes, he said, people exercise their rights to the state.
Dr Kamal said there are around 160 million people in Bangladesh who cannot directly govern the country. "They've to govern through their elected representatives. This is the critical importance of the election," he added.
"We're getting phone calls from different places of stuffing ballot boxes overnight which is shocking. This is the betrayal with the martyrs and Bangabnadhu," said Dr Kamal.
Meanwhile, Dr Kamal Hossain on Sunday expressed deep concern for the overall election atmosphere, but said they will not quit the race, reports UNB.
He made the remarks while speaking at a press conference at Gano Forum office at Motijheel.
Dr Kamal, also the Gano Forum president, said he is receiving phone calls every moment with the allegations of irregularities everywhere. "I had expected that I would get good news from at least one place, but unfortunately I received no such news."
As per the Constitution, people are the owners of the country where democracy will be the main principle, he said.
"But the colour of democracy which was manifested 47 years after the independence is unfortunate."
The Oikya Front chief also said they will present the whole picture of the election before journalists after 6:00 pm.
