BSTI files cases against 743 illegal organisations in Jan-July this year

Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) has filed cases against a total of 743 organisations after it found them illegal during its drives in January-July 2019 period.

Apart from this, the state-run institute also imposed fines Tk 28.75 million by mobile courts and surveillance teams in 1,376 drives during the period.

The BSTI issued or renewed 2,614 licenses of different products during the period while 1,896 samples were tested at laboratory after the agency collected them from the open markets.

Md Muazzem Hossain, the director general of national standards regulatory body, disclosed the information on Tuesday at a views exchange meeting with the Bangladesh Steel Manufacturers Association at the BSTI headquarters in the capital.

Bangladesh Steel Manufacturers Association Secretary General Muhammad Shahidullah also spoke at the event, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Md Muazzem Hossain said stern action would be taken against the unscrupulous manufacturers, importers and traders those who manufacture and sell substandard products in the market.
