BSTI fines four eateries in city

The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) lodged cases against 14 business entities and also fined several others across the country on Sunday for selling and manufacturing adulterated food items and weight manipulation. During drives in different parts of the city, the national standards body filed cases against Para food Limited at Purana Pultan, Sharif Bakery at Adabor and Shahi Mithai at Mohammadpur for selling and producing adulterated food items, said a statement.
A mobile court led by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun along with BSTI officials fined Kostori Hotel & Chinese, New Star, Food Fair and Snacks and Prince Restaurant Tk 375,000 in Farmgate area for selling and manufacturing adulterated food items.
Another mobile court led by Executive Magistrate of Dhaka South City Corporation Md Moniruzzaman along with BSTI officials fined two meat shops and three vegetable shops at Azimpur Tk 29,000 for charging customers higher prices.
It also filed cases against Bhagyakul Bikrampur Mistanno Bhander at Tejgaon, and Ros Mistir Sristi and Dhaka Prime Sweet Limited in Tikatuli area for weight manipulation.
The BSTI also filed cases against different businesses in Sylhet, Cumilla and Bogura for unauthorised selling and manufacturing food items and weight manipulation.
