The 'Suprobhat Paribahan' bus that killed BUP student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury in Bashundhara residential area on March 19 was being driven by its conductor, reports UNB.

Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten of DMP's Detective Branch (DB) came up with the information while briefing reporters on Wednesday.

Conductor Yasin Arafat was driving the vehicle, said the DB official.

During interrogation, bus driver Sirajul Islam revealed that he started driving the bus on the day from Victoria Park area around 05:45 am and it hit 1st year student of Mirpur Ideal Girls College Sinthiya Sultana Mukta while passing Bashtola of Shahjadpur, leaving her injured.

The driver was caught by passengers and later handed over to traffic police.

Later, conductor Yasin was driving the vehicle following an instruction of the bus owner that hit Abrar in front of Bashundhara Gate, leaving him dead.

Sensing danger, Yasin fled the scene.

Abrar's father Brig Gen (retd) Arif Ahmed Chowdhury filed a case with Gulshan Police Station on Tuesday night.

Later, driver Sirajul was placed on a 7-day remand in the case.

Meanwhile, DB has taken charge of the investigation into the case and brought the driver under their custody for interrogation.

Acting on his information, DB police conducted drives and arrested Yasin from Shahrasti in Chandpur and helper Ibrahim from Madhya Badda on Tuesday morning.
