Cop goes missing in Meghna after clash with fishermen

CHANDPUR, Apr 27 (UNB): A police constable went missing in the Meghna River in Haimchar upazila early Saturday after a clash with fishermen.

The missing policeman is Mosharraf Hossain, hailing from Sitakundu.

SK Mohsin Alam, officer-in-charge of Haimchar Police Station, said that a team of police was going to the Char Korali area around 1:30am to arrest a warranted accused.

Assuming that the policemen were coming to arrest the fishermen who were catching fish defying the ongoing ban they attacked the boat carrying cops in the mid river with bamboo and brick chips, he said.

Police also opened five round bullets to bring the situation under control.

Mosharraf sustained injuries during the clash and fell into the river, said the OC.

Seven policemen were also injured.
