COX'S BAZAR, June 2: Members of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) rescued a woman from Chattogram city on Friday one year after she escaped from the torture of her husband for dowry.

The rescued woman was identified as Setara Begum (22), wife of Rafiqul Islam and daughter of Nabi Hossain of Villager Para under Chakaria upazila.

According to sources, Setara was married to Rafiqul Islam of the same village in 2011.

Since after marriage, Rafiqul had been putting pressure on her for dowry.

As Setara's father refused to meet the demand of dowry Rafiqul tortured her frequently.

At one stage, Setara fled home to save herself from the husband's torture in April 2017.

Later Setara's father filled a case against three persons, including Rafiqul, with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Cox's Bazar in the same month.

The tribunal ordered PBI to investigate the incident.

After long investigation, members of PBI rescued Setara from a house in TSP Gate area of Chattogram city in a drive on Friday noon.
