CHATTOGRAM, June 06: Rescuers finally recovered the body of Greek captain Marcopolos Vesilius in Chattogram Port on Wednesday.

The recovery was made three days after the captain of Cyprus vessel MV Ivania had gone missing in the Karnaphuli on Monday night.

Coast Guard, Bangladesh Navy and port security personnel found the body around 9:30am in the Chattogram Container Terminal jetty-3 of the port.

Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Md Omar Faruq said they will send the body to the authorities concerned after performing an autopsy.

Mr Vesilius slipped into the river while getting down the ship's rope ladder at jetty number 7 of the port at around 9:00pm.

The ship, loaded with steel pipes and machinery, arrived in the port on Monday afternoon from China.

Immediately after the incident, the crew of the vessel dropped rope for the captain's salvage but to no avail.

He could not catch hold of it due to strong current during low tide in the river, sources said.
