CUJ demands action against Max Hospital for Raifa's death

CHATTOGRAM, Jul 16: Leaders of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) on Monday demanded action against the Max Hospital authority, including physicians, for whose alleged negligence baby Raifa died while under treatment at the hospital recently.

The journalist leaders submitted a memorandum in this regard to the health minister through Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) of Chattogram Habibur Rahman at the latter's office at the Court Building.

In the memorandum, they quoted two probe committees formed by the Health Directorate, Dhaka and local health department office in Chattogram as saying negligence of three doctors and the Max Hospital management are responsible for the death of Raifa, the only female baby of journalist Rubel Khan, a staff reporter at Chattogram office of the national daily Samokal.

President and general secretary of the CUJ Nazimuddin Shyamol and Hassan Ferdous respectively, newly elected BFUJ vice president Reaz Hyder Chowdhury, executive magistrate Tauhidul Islam, CUJ vice president Mohammad Ali, joint secretary of Chittagong Press Club Chowdhury Farid, CUJ joint secretary Sabur Subha, organising secretary SM Iftekharul Islam, publicity secretary Kutub Uddin and executive members Uttam Sengupta and Khorshed Alam were among other signatories to the memorandum.
