D-8 sees prosperous B'desh with more assertive role

D-8 (Developing-8) Secretary General Ambassador Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari has said the "decisive victory" of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's party in the December 30 election is a reflection of people's aspirations for a prosperous Bangladesh and a stronger position with "more assertive role" in international affairs, reports UNB.

"I've no doubt your able and visionary leadership will take Bangladesh to a new height of excellence in all strata of development," Ambassador Shaari said in a message congratulating Sheikh Hasina on her reelection for the third consecutive term.

The Secretary General expressed the hope that this historic and resounding victory will pave the way for a strong, united and prosperous Bangladesh.

"We, in D-8 Secretariat, share the same spirit with and join the people of Bangladesh in celebrating the outcome of this election," the message shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka reads.

The D-8 Secretary General said Bangladesh's engagement with D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation will be deepened.

"We're eagerly looking forward to the consolidation of our brotherly and beneficial relations.

Developing 8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation (D-8), founded in 1997, aims to increase economic cooperation among its Member States to boost economic growth, sustain development and promote the wellbeing of their citizens.

Meanwhile, Sudanese Prime Minister Mutaz Musa Abdalla has congratulated Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina on her reelection for a third consecutive tenure, reports UNB.

"On my behalf and the people and the government of the Republic of the Sudan, it gives great honour to extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for your reelection as the PM of the People's Republic of Bangladesh," said the Sudanese PM in a message.

The Sudanese PM assured Sheikh Hasina of their continued commitment to promote and reinforce the excellent relations happily exist between the two countries and peoples.

He said he is confident that Sheikh Hasina would spare no effort towards the realisation of that objective, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
