'Drug trader' dies in Cox's Bazar 'gunfight' at Delpara

COX'S BAZAR, Mar 14 (UNB): A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh at Delpara village in Teknaf Upazila early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Nurul Islam, 32, son of Abdul Gafur of Ward No. 4 of the municipality.

Tipped off, a team of BGB-2 conducted a drive in the area at around 04:00 am, said Shariful Islam Chamakdar, acting commanding officer of BGB-2.

Sensing presence of the border guards, the criminals opened fire on the law enforcers, leaving one dead on the spot.

The BGB team also recovered 7,000 Yaba pills and two sharp weapons from the spot.

The body was sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
