Education ministry clarifies media report on bribe issue

December 26, 2017 00:00:00

The education ministry on Monday explained its position over a report carried out by a number of newspapers and online portals over bribe issue saying that the reports gave scope for some misunderstandings, reports UNB.

The education ministry said the reports were presented considering old information and evaluation related to the Directorate of Inspection and Audit (DIA) as latest position.

"It's (report) unfortunate, confusing and opposite of the education minister's basic speech and goes against the current policy of the education ministry," said a PID handout.

On Sunday, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid attended a laptops and certificates distribution ceremony of the DIA as the chief guest.

While speaking at the function, the education minister referred to a situation of eight years back and described the scenario of corruption and irregularities among the DIA officials at that time, said the PID handout.

The education minister said the situation has been changed significantly due to introduction of digital monitoring.

Quoting the education minister, the PID handout said the government will not tolerate irregularities and corruption of DIA officials and recently a DIA official has been arrested with the help of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) with evidence of graft.
