Five to die for murder in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 10 (UNB): A court here convicted on Tuesday five people and sentenced them to death for killing an US expatriate Nurul Alam in 2011.

The condemned convicts are -Mafizur Rahman, Jewel Barua, Babul Barua, Sanjay Banik and Md Monir.

Of them, Jewel was present on the dock while the others remained fugitive after securing bail from the court in the case, said public prosecutor Taslim Uddin.

According to the prosecution, Nurul Alam (56), an US expatriate was hacked to death by his rivals over previous enmity at his residence in city's Oxygen area on May 30, 2011.

Police recovered the body on the same day and arrested five people in connection with the incident in different times.

After examining records and witnesses, Chattogram 5th Additional Metropolitan Session Judge Jannatul Ferdous handed down the verdict.
