KISHOREGANJ, Oct 10 (UNB): President Abdul Hamid urged on Thursday the lawyers to forge a strong social movement against drug abuse, corruption, gambling and gang culture.

He came up with the call at a mass reception accorded to him on the second day of his seven-day visit to his home district Kishoreganj.

Kishoreganj Bar Association organised the reception on the district judge court premises.

He also attended the foundation stone laying ceremony of the 10-storey building of Kishoreganj district judge court.

Putting emphasis on ending gang-culture, he said, "All will have to come forward in this regard. Only administration and law enforcers will not be able to prevent this menace successfully. Your (mass people) co-operation can help prevent it," he said.

Expressing concern over distance between mass people and the lawyers, he said, "Lawyers are lagging behind in the society. Even the number of lawyers at parliament is decreasing. It indicates that the distance between mass people and the lawyers is deepening."

Secretaries concerned to the President were also present at the programme.
