Gazipur 'gunfight' kills 'drug trader'

GAZIPUR, Apr 01 (UNB): A suspected drug trader was killed in a 'gunfight' with detectives at Bhabanipur intersection in the city early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Jahangir Alam.

Assistant commissioner of Gazipur Detective Branch Ruhul Amin said that tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, a group drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, the DB team rescued the bullet-hit body of a drug trader and took him to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered a pistol, Yaba tablets and hemp from the spot.
