Govt takes strategic actions for Rohingya repatriation: Quader

August 25, 2019 00:00:00

Awami League general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said Sunday the government has taken strategic actions to repatriate the forcibly displaced Rohingyas to their homeland in the Rakhine state of Myanmar.

"There is no failure of the government to repatriate the Rohingyas . . . Here are some strategic actions in this connection," he said while speaking at a mourning discussion organised by "BRTC Sramik-Karmachari League" at Diploma Engineers' Institution in the city, reports BSS.

The minister said: "Myanmar government is facing serious pressure soon after the Rohingyas fled away to Bangladesh territory. Rohingya people do not have trust in their government as it failed to create any congenial atmosphere, ensure security and settle citizenship issue there."

Noting that they (Rohingyas) were brutally tortured in their ancestral land and Myanmar must shoulder its responsibility, he said. "We won't choose the path of battle, our relentless efforts would continue to exert pressure on Myanmar and we are tactfully handling the issue."

Referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's diplomatic success in this regard, the AL general secretary said this government in the meantime attained a significant success in getting international support, including that of the United Nations Organisation and Europe, and efforts still continues to resolve the crisis through discussion.
