Healthy mothers can give a healthy nation

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said on Sunday healthy mothers can give a healthy nation as a child gets strength from mother's inspiration, reports BSS.

"Mother is the only shelter for getting rid of all pains, sorrows and distress," she said.

The Speakers came up with the remarks while speaking at a programme on 'Gorbini Maa (proud mother), ' marking the Mother's Day at RAOWA Convention Centre in the city.

Universal Medical College and Hospital organised the programme to give special honour to successful mothers.

State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Md Murad Hasan's mother Manwara Begum, singer Mamtaz Begum's mother Ujala Begum, Deputy Inspector General of Highway Police Md Atiqul Islam's mother Zaheda Khatun, Dhaka University Microbiology Department Chairperson Professor Sabita Rezwana Rahman's mother Asia Rahman, Executive Magistrate Md Sarawar Alam's mother Mst Amena Khatun, ATN News Chief Executive Officer Munni Saha's mother Apple Rani Saha, Film Actress Sadiqa Parvin Poppy's mother Mariam Begum, television actor Afran Nisho's mother Anjuman Ara, Pilot Captain Mohammad Zakaria's mother Qazi Mahfuza Begum and DU meritorious student Hridoy Sarker's mother Shima Sarker received the "Gorbini Maa" award.

Shirin said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has undertaken different important initiatives for the welfare of mothers, including providing maternity allowance, allowance for lactating mothers, six-month maternity leave for service holder mothers, inclusion of mother's name along with father's in passport and ensuring different facilities for service holder mothers.

The Speaker urged all to stay beside their mothers always during every need.

Chaired by Universal Medical College and Hospital Chairman and FBCCI Director Prity Chakrabarty, the function was also addressed by the hospital's managing director and chief initiator of Gorbini Mother programme Ashish Kumar Chakrabarty and Nagarik Television Chief Executive Officer Dr Abdun Noor Tushar
