Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday appreciated the results of this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations but noted that they will be better if the students pay proper attention, reports UNB.

"The results are sufficiently acceptable and good," she said after receiving the HSC and equivalent results from Education Minister Dipu Moni at her official residence Ganobhaban.

"I think if the students pay proper attention, their results will be better," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said she believes that education is the key to building a prosperous and developed nation free from hunger and poverty.

"An educated nation can build a developed, prosperous and poverty and hunger-free country," she said.

This year, 73.93 per cent students passed the HSC and equivalent examinations.

Sheikh Hasina congratulated the successful candidates and consoled the unsuccessful ones.

"You'll get the chance the next time," she said.

The PM thanked the teachers and everyone concerned for publishing the results within the stipulated time.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel was also present while the Principal Secretary M Nojibur Rahman conducted the programme.

Sheikh Hasina said her government gave highest priority to the education sector and formulated a time befitting modern education policy.

Steps were also taken to nurture a science and technology-savvy generation to take the country forward, she said, adding that the nation is now getting the results of these initiatives.

The PM also emphasised publishing results on time, and asked the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to ensure gender equality in the education sector.
