Motiur, Ashraful elected BSA president, secretary

Professor PK Motiur Rahman and AKM Ashraful Haque were elected president and secretary general respectively of the Bangladesh Statistical Association (BSA).

BSA is an apex group of the country's professional statisticians.

The term of the new committee is two years -- 2019-2020.

They were elected at the two-day 17th biennial conference of BSA ended on July 27 at the Planning Commission in the city.

A total of 41 office bearers were elected at the conference.

Professor Rahman is a faculty at the Institute of Statistical Research and Training of the University of Dhaka while Mr Haque is a joint director and project director of the country's national statistical organisation -- Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

Md Mohidul Islam, a joint director at the Bangladesh Bank, was elected treasurer.

The vice presidents are: Dr Krishna Gayen (director general at the BBS), Professor Dr M Saidur Rahman (Rajshahi University), Professor Dr Md Forhad Hossain (Jahangirnagar University), AKM Fazlul Haque Mia (executive director at the Bangladesh Bank), Professor Dr Md Abdul Kuddus (dean, Agriculture University) and Talukder Md Jakaria Hossain (managing director at the Union Insurance).

Professor Dr Provasdh Kumar Kormakar, Md Masud Aktar Talukder, Md Zahidul Haque Sarder and Dr Amamul Haque Sajib were elected joint secretaries general.

The association has now over 2000 life-time member.
