National Jatka Conservation Week begins March 16

The National 'Jatka Conservation Week-2019' will be observed in the 36 Hilsa inhabited districts from March 16 to 22 aiming to create mass awareness on preserving Jatka (Hilsha fry) to boost the national fish production, reports UNB.

The inaugural ceremony of Jatka conservation week will be held at Charfashion in Bhola on March 16. A naval rally will also be organised led by State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru in the river on the day, said a press release.

A slogan that goes "Kono Jal Felbona, Jatka-Ilish Dhorbona" ('No throwing the net, no catching jatka-ilish") has been decided for this year. The decisions were all finalised at a meeting of the National Taskforce of Hilsa Resources Development held at the conference room.

Earlier, although a decision was taken to observe the day from March 10 to 16, the date shifted to March 16 to 22.
