Pension, welfare trust money

Non-govt teachers demand withdrawal of new order

Teachers and employees of non-government educational institutions on Tuesday urged the government not to take 10 per cent of their monthly salaries for pension board and welfare trust, reports UNB.

Bangladesh Non-Government Teachers' and Employees' Forum also demanded nationalisation of the institutions at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club in the city.

"Previously, the amount reserved for pension board and welfare trust was six per cent of the total salary.

But after the newly issued order, it has been increased to 10 per cent," said Md Saidul Hasan Selim, president of the forum.

The organisation said the four per cent rise was ordered through two separate notices issued by the Madrasah Education Board and the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board.

Selim said they had staged countrywide demonstrations and held human chains on February 03 demanding cancellation of the order.

Teachers and employees of non-government schools, colleges and madrasahs submitted memorandums to their respective district commissioners on Tuesday seeking abolition of the order, the forum said.

Selim expressed the hope Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would nationalise non-government educational institutions and repeal the issued order.

The forum warned of intensified agitation if the demands are not met by May 10.
