PM for hundred per cent literacy to build poverty-free BD

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina has said the government will ensure hundred per cent literacy to build poverty and hunger-free Bangladesh, report agencies.

She said the country needs many golden sons in the coming days to build the 'Golden Bengal' of Bangabandhu.

The PM made the comments while addressing a function at her Gonobhaban residence in the city on Sunday, marking publication of the SSC and equivalent examinations results of ten education boards.

The PM said peace and security at all levels of the society is the most important prerequisite to country's development.

She urged all to make their efforts to establish peace and security in the society saying one day Bangladesh will emerge as a developed country as its independence earned at the cost of huge blood cannot go in vein.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over a summary of the results to PM at her Gonobhaban residence on Sunday morning.

Later, chairmen of ten education boards handed over the results of their respective board to the PM.

A total of 77.77 per cent students came out successful in this year's SSC and equivalent examinations, 2.58 per cent less than last year.

State Minister for Madrasa and Technical Education Department Kazi Keramat Ali also spoke on the occasion.

Principal Secretary Md Nazibur Rahman conducted the programme which was connected with Barishal and Bandarban district through video conference.

The prime minister congratulated the candidates who had successfully passed their exams.

She told those who had failed not to despair, but to pay greater attention to their studies instead.

Pointing out the steps taken by her government to give support to education sector the PM said the government is giving scholarship to the students up to post graduate level to pursue their studies.

While talking to the students and officials of Bandarban and Barishal districts through video conference the PM said her government has a plan to build more residential schools in remote areas of the country and Chittagong Hill Tracts.

"Despite substantial improvement of overall communications system across the country, remote areas need more residential schools to facilitate the students to pursue their studies perfectly," she said.

"It's not a matter to us who is hilly and who is Bangali. We look to the education and welfare of every people," she said.

The prime minister urged the officials to introduce midday meal in all schools.

"It is our hope that future generations will be well-educated and take the helm of the country. We want them to become proper citizens," the PM said.
