President for creating awareness about cancer

President Abdul Hamid on Sunday stressed the need for taking steps to create awareness about cancer as the number of cancer patients has been increasing in the country. The President said this when a delegation of Bangladesh Cancer Society led by its President Prof Mollah Obayedullah Baki made a courtesy call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban. During the meet the delegation apprised the President of the society's activities and informed him that the society started its activities in 1978 but got pace during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s tenure. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given the society 1.74 acre of land, they said. They also apprised the President that the society is running a 32-bed hospital in a tin-shed building but it has a plan to build a 250-bed hospital. President Abdul Hamid urged the delegation to take steps so that big business establishments and banks come forward with help for further development of the society. Concerned secretaries to the President office were present, according to BSS.
