Robi-Drishty debate contest begins in Chattogram

CHATTOGRAM, Sep 17: The Robi-Drishty Debate Championship kicked off in the port city of Chattogram recently with a call to remove narrowness of mind to achieve the vision of a developed Bangladesh.

Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation AJM Nasir Uddin inaugurated the event as chief guest at the Chattogram Shilpakala Academy.

Robi's managing director and CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed and CEO of Nagorik Television Abdun Nur Tushar spoke on the occasion as special guests.

Robi's Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Shahed Alam, Vice President, Media, Communications and Sustainability Ekram Kabir and Cluster Market Director ASM Enayetur Rahim were also present at the inauguration.

Students from 42 schools in Chattogram and 32 universities and 16 colleges across the country participated in the competition which will end on September 22.

Chattogram city Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said the people need to remove all narrowness of mind in order to achieve the target of a developed nation.

Constructive debate is essential to bring about positive changes in the society, he added. "We need to apply reasoning in every aspect of our life to enrich our society," the mayor noted.

Mahtab Uddin said debate is the key to creation of a knowledge-based society.

He thanked the organisers of Drishty Chattogram for championing the cause for debate in the society.

"As the leading digital service provider we feel honoured to be part of this social movement," he said, adding, "When it comes to acquiring knowledge nothing beats internet with the creation of the largest 4.5G network of the country with 7,100 4.5G sites."

Abdun Nur Tushar emphasised building a meritorious and genius Bangladesh through debate.

Debaters are creative, imaginative and thinking people and all these qualities are essential to become an ideal human being, he said.

Drishty Chattogram President Masud Bakul presided over the inaugural function while Vice President Saif Chowdhury and General Secretary Saber Shah also spoke.
