Two suspected pirates, and a criminal were killed in alleged shootouts with RAB in Narayanganj and Chittagong in the early hours of Monday, reports bdnews24.com.

In Narayanganj, two suspected pirates have been killed in an alleged shootout with RAB.

The dead are pirate gang Zillur Bahini leader Zillur and one of his accomplices. Several cases have been filed against the two, RAB said.

The incident occurred in the Alirtek area of Narayanganj Sadar upazila in the early hours of Monday, said RAB-11 Company Commander Alep Uddin.

RAB began an operation on the Dhaleswari River in Alirtek following a tip-off that the Zillur Bahini were preparing to rob a boat. The gang opened fire when they noticed the RAB team and the law enforcers returned fire.

"Two of the bandits, including 'pirate leader' Zillur were shot. The rest fled. The wounded were recovered and taken to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared them dead."

Meanwhile, in Chittagong, a man with alleged ties to a series of criminal cases has been killed in a 'shootout' in Sitakunda of Chittagong.

The shootout was reported from a remote area of the upazila, known as Jungle Salimpur, in the early hours of Monday, said Ashekur Rahman, deputy director of RAB-7.

The victim was identified as Kalu Mia (42), who is named in at least 12 cases over murder, rape and robbery, according to RAB.

The shootout erupted during a RAB search of the jungle, Rahman said.
