Three Rajshahi cops suspended for 'mugging'

RAJSHAHI, May 07 (UNB): Three policemen of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) were suspended on Monday on charge of mugging.

The accused policemen are Assistant Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam and constables Monirul Islam and Sujon of Rajpara thana.

They have been attached to Rajshahi Police Lines, said Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajpara thana.

On April 29, Abdul Hakim Manik of Haripur Sahapara in Chapainawabganj filed a written complaint to RMP chief, accusing the three of mugging.

Manik said his brother Md Salauddin suffered a heart attack and came to Rajshahi for treatment. A team of police led by ASI Shariful tortured his brother and took Tk 7,000 from him threatening to file a case against him.
