Two new books on geo-politics, authored by two professors of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), were launched at a ceremony on its campus on Tuesday.

Of the books, Dr Imtiaz A Hussain wrote "Transatlantic Transition: Back to the global Future?" and Dr Md Aminul Karim "21st Century High Politics in the Indo-Pacific and the Bay of Bengal".

Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, former adviser to a caretaker government, attended the ceremony as the chief guest while Professor M Omar Rahman, vice chancellor of IUB, and Towhid Samad, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Chittagong Independent University, were also present, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman said the contexts of the books are very much global, which can help a reader to gather knowledge about the fast changing global perspectives and make an assessment of the transformation.

There are references to multidimensional disciplines in the two books, authored by two veteran scholars, like high-politics and geo-economics, he said.

Elaborating the global economic trends, he said inequality is a fundamental issue which will be influencing the transitions and high-politics across the globe.

"At the level of popular discourses, inequality is certainly one big reference point," he said, adding that identity-politics has become another vital issue in recent times.

In his speech, Dr Imtiaz A Hussain, head of Global Studies and Governance Program at the IUB, said the book shows various dimensions of silver trade, Muslim migration, west European democracy, and how global and historical transatlantic boundaries actually are.

At the same ceremony, the books were also reviewed by Brig Gen (Retd) Shahedul Anam Khan, and Dr A S M Ali Ashraf, professor of International Relations at the University of Dhaka.
