Underpass on Dhaka-Aricha highway opens tomorrow

FE REPORT | September 24, 2019 00:00:00

An underpass on Dhaka-Aricha highway near Savar Cantonment Shooting Club will open to traffic tomorrow (Wednesday), which will help ease traffic congestion in the area.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will inaugurate the 188-metre underpass having 140-metre ramp, officials said.

The highway is important for both travellers and freight carriers, they said, adding that the underpass is expected to reduce traffic tailbacks to a great extent.

Hundreds of vehicles and pedestrians use the highway regularly as there are a number of schools and colleges and markets in the area.

The underpass will also help reduce road accident on the highway, said an official.

The Twenty-four Engineer Construction Brigade of Bangladesh Army constructed the underpass at a cost of Tk 263 million. It started the construction work in January 2018.

Under the project, 800-metre highway, 420-metre new service road and 430-metre footpath were also developed.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has taken a move to construct several underpasses in the city. Last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the construction work on an underpass near Kurmitola General Hospital, which will help students and patients to cross the busy Airport Road without facing traffic hassle.
