FE Report | May 21, 2018 00:00:00

UNFPA Executive Director (ED) and UN Under-Secretary-General, Dr. Natalia Kanem will visit Bangladesh on May 21-24.

It will be her first visit to Bangladesh as the ED of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund.

Dr. Kanem became UNFPA head in October 2017 with the rank of United Nations Under-Secretary-General, said a UNDP statement.

During her visit, she will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, and the ministers of health and foreign affairs.

Dr. Kanem will also have consultative meetings with UN agencies, development partners, civil society and media to share her views on progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the upcoming 25th year celebration of the International Conference on Population and Development.

During her meetings she will engage in conversations on Bangladesh's current maternal health, family planning, adolescent and youth, gender equality and population issues.

She will also visit Cox's Bazar Rohingya camps, and meet Rohingya women and girls at UNFPA-supported reproductive health clinics and women friendly spaces.
