CHATTOGRAM, Apr 29: Speakers at a view-exchange meeting on Monday said women empowerment is still a distant dream as women ward councillors and women leaders cannot work properly due to legal limitations.

The meeting on "empowerment of women and strengthening local government" was held at the hall of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) this morning.

President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Chattogram district committee Latifa Kabir chaired the meeting. Panel Mayor Dr Nisar Uddin Ahamed Monju was present as the chief guest while president of Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) Nazimuddin Shyamol as the special guest.

Vice president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Rekha Chowdhury and its general secretary Maleka Banu, ward councillors Monwara Begum Moni, Anjuman Ara, Jesmin Khanom, Abida Azad, Jobaida Nargis and Farjana Parvin also addressed the meeting.

Women are still falling victim to sexual violence in the country, the speakers added.
