Zakat Fair begins in city tomorrow

FE Report | May 10, 2018 00:00:00

A two-day long Zakat Fair-2018 will begin in the city tomorrow (Friday) with the aim of making people aware of the significance of zakat as one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

To be held at Bangladesh Shooting Sport Federation in the city's Gulshan, the sixth version of the fair is intended to encourage the stakeholders' interactions to help ensure the best use of zakat fund.

Centre for Zakat Management (CZM), organiser of the event, made the announcement at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Wednesday.

AMM Nasir Uddin, member secretary of the fair organising committee, Mohammad Abdul Qayum, management consultant of the CZM, and Khondokar Zakaria Ahmed, general manager of the organisation, were present, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Nasir Uddin said the CZM has been organising Zakat Fair for the past couple of years aiming to build awareness among the zakat payers and to help make the proper calculation of the zakat amount.

"A good number of Muslims in the country are interested to pay zakat every year. But many of them don't have clear concept about the Fifth Pillar of Islam," he said.

People intending to pay zakat may get suggestions from the Islamic scholars attending the fair and duly perform the religious ritual, which will ultimately help reduce poverty in the country, he added.

The fair will remain open from 9.00 am to 6.30 pm.

The Financial Express is one of the media partners of the event.
