Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Saturday 2018 will be a year of defeat for the BNP-led communal forces, reports BSS.

"Under the leadership of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina, the newer voyage for victory against communal forces in the next Jatiya Sangsad elections begins from today,"

He made the remarks while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a rally at the Aparajeyo Bangla on Dhaka University campus marking the 70th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

BCL president Saifur Rahman Sohag chaired the function and general secretary SM Jakir Hossain conducted it while former presidents and general secretaries of the country's largest and oldest students' organisation attended the inaugural function.

Quader, also minister for road transport and bridges, urged the leaders and workers of BCL to take a lesson from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's honesty and courage.

He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who founded Chhatra League, is the role model for politics of Awami League and associate and like minded bodies.

Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina, architect of Digital Bangladesh, lighthouse for endangered humanity and mother of humanity, is the role model for development and achievement of Bangladesh, he added.

Quader, also a former BCL president, underscored the need for enhancing quality of leaders and workers with the increasing of number of members. However, he warned that the vast number of members will not benefit the organisation if there is no discipline in it.

On the other hand, a disciplined small organisation can be stronger than a large one having no discipline, he added.

The AL general secretary urged the BCL leaders and workers to stop their tendency of creating intra-organizational enmity.

"We cannot let the image of the government be tarnished due to evil works of few persons. Disciplinary action will be taken against those involved in wrongdoing," he added.

Oabidul Quader asked the leaders of Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL), the student wing of Awami League, to hold its next council by March this year.

Quader said, "I discussed with our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about the BCL council. She wants it to be held by March, the month of independence."

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, advised the incumbent president and secretary of BCL to take preparations to hold the council.

"Though there're some criticisms against the incumbent committee, they have some achievements as well," he added.
