BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia comes out of the Court of Dhaka Special Judge-5 at Bakshibazar in the city on Thursday after appearing in the defence arguments hearing in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. — Collected BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's lawyer said on Thursday Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has failed to prove any allegation of graft against his client while placing the defence argument in Zia orphanage graft case, reports UNB.
Khaleda's lawyer Zamir Uddin Sircar concluded his defence argument on Thursday afternoon and pleaded before the court saying, "Khaleda seeks justice, deliver her a true justice."
Md Akhtaruzzaman, judge of Dhaka 5th Special Court , adjourned the argument hearing for Thursday and ordered to place rest of the argument on January 16, 17 and 18.
Zamir Uddin Sircar, also a BNP leader, reminded the court about democracy, rule of law and justice and said, "The false cases were filed against Khaleda during 1/11 only for political reason and to obstruct her political life."
On July 3, 2008, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna thana accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, and four others for misappropriating over Tk 21 million (2.10 crore) that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
On August 8, 2011, the commission filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon thana accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abuse of power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
