Khandaker Enamul Basir, the suspended director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), was sent to jail by a Dhaka court on Tuesday denying his plea for a bail.
Mr Basir, temporarily suspended by the commission earlier, was nabbed by an ACC team led by its Director Sheikh Md Fanafillah from the city's Darussalam area on Monday night, said ACC's public relations official Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.
ACC produced Mr Basir to the Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka where Judge KM Emrul Kayesh rejected his appeal for bail and ordered to send him to jail.
The ACC official was accused in a case for receiving bribes of Tk 4.0 million from suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Bangladesh Police Mizanur Rahman.
Earlier on July 16, Mr Fanafillah filed the case against the two government officials with the ACC's Dhaka District Coordination Office-1 in Dhaka.
DIG Mizan was shown arrested on the same case on Sunday. He has been in jail since July 02.
Mizan was earlier detained based on another case lodged on June 24 against him and three of his family members for concealing information of Tk 30.07 million and accumulating Tk 32.80 million from unknown sources.
