Admin slaps Sec 144 on BNP rallies in Thakurgaon

THAKURGAON, Jan 6 (UNB): Four rallies of BNP were obstructed on Saturday as the local administration imposed Section 144 in Akhanagar, Ruhia, Patiadangi and Dholarhat areas of Sadar upazila.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Aslam Molla said they imposed the section 144 in four areas since 10:00 am, apprehending that the law and order situation might go out of control centring the rallies of the BNP.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar thana Abdul Latif Mia said police were deployed in the venues of the four rallies to fend off any unwanted situation.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was scheduled to join the rallies, returned from the Sahjalal International Airport in the capital, canceling the visit.
